About

Where Agriculture Meets Botanical Innovation

Lebotanica is a Lebanese company working at the intersection of regenerative agriculture, botanical extracts, and natural formulation.

We develop practical, sustainable approaches that connect plant cultivation and biological resources with extraction, ingredient development, and formulation R&D.

Our work brings together agricultural knowledge, laboratory-based development, and regenerative principles to create opportunities for locally sourced botanical resources and their applications in natural products, personal care, and sustainable agriculture.

The name Lebotanica brings together two ideas at the heart of our work: Lebanon and botany.

Our Work

What We Do

Skincare and cosmetic manufacturers can work with us in three areas: the botanical resources we cultivate and source, the extracts we develop from them, and custom development or collaborative R&D on a specific technical need.

Botanical Resources

We cultivate, source, and evaluate botanical resources, including locally relevant plants, specialty botanicals, and selected agricultural co-products, for use in natural ingredient development.

Botanical Extracts

We develop botanical extracts from cultivated plants, specialty botanicals, and agricultural co-products, with attention to extraction methods, extract quality, and their relevance to cosmetic and skincare formulations.

Custom Development & R&D

We work with skincare manufacturers on custom botanical extract development, formulation applications, and collaborative R&D projects tailored to specific botanical and technical needs.

Pathway

From Plant to Application

We connect botanical resources with practical applications through a development pathway spanning cultivation and sourcing, extraction, characterization, formulation, and technical evaluation.

  1. Cultivation & Resources

    Identifying and growing the resource

Identifying, cultivating, sourcing, and evaluating plant resources for botanical ingredient development and sustainable applications.

  2. Extraction

    Small-scale extraction

Developing appropriate small-scale extraction approaches to recover valuable compounds and functional botanical fractions from plant materials.

  3. Characterization

    Understanding the extract

Assessing the characteristics and properties of botanical extracts to support informed ingredient and formulation development.

  4. Formulation

    From extract to formulation

Integrating botanical extracts into natural formulations and exploring their practical applications in skincare and personal care.

  5. Technical Evaluation

    Evaluation and optimization

Evaluating formulations and development processes to support further optimization and application.

Three of these botanical resources are agricultural co-products. Olive leaves are recovered during olive harvesting and pruning, grape pomace is recovered from wine pressing, and pomegranate peels are recovered from fruit processing. The remaining resources are cultivated or locally sourced botanical materials.

Additional Botanical Extracts

  • Sage Salvia officinalis Sage Extract
  • Myrtle Myrtus communis Myrtle Leaf Extract
  • Rosemary Salvia rosmarinus Rosemary Extract
  • Marjoram Origanum majorana Marjoram Extract
  • Chamomile Matricaria chamomilla Chamomile Extract

Selected Specialty Botanicals

Extracts & Ingredients

Botanical Extracts & Natural Ingredients

Manufacturers approach us in three ways: about extracts we have already developed, about an extract they need that is not yet in our portfolio, or about a project their own R&D team wants support on.

Existing Extract Portfolio

Companies can contact us about botanical extracts already developed within our portfolio, for evaluation and possible use in their own formulations.

Custom Botanical Extract Development

Where a manufacturer needs a botanical extract outside our current portfolio, we can discuss the requirement and evaluate developing it through small-scale extraction and development work.

Collaborative Botanical R&D

We work alongside a manufacturer’s own R&D and formulation teams on botanical projects, covering resource evaluation, extraction approaches, extract optimization, and formulation applications.

Application Areas

Applications

Our work is designed to support the development of natural, plant-based solutions across several application areas.

Cosmetics & Personal Care

Botanical extracts and natural ingredients for skincare, body care, and other personal-care formulations.

Natural Products

Plant-derived ingredients and formulation concepts for products built around natural and botanical resources.

Botanical Ingredients

Development of botanical extracts and ingredient concepts for companies seeking locally relevant, traceable plant-based materials.

Sustainable Agriculture

Botanical resources and natural-input development supporting more sustainable agricultural systems and applications.

Principles

Our Approach

Four principles shape how we work, whatever the resource or the project.

Regenerative

We seek approaches that restore and strengthen the agricultural systems and natural resources on which future production depends.

Scientific

We use structured development, laboratory-based evaluation, and evidence-informed decision-making to guide our work.

Practical

We judge our work by whether it can move beyond an idea into a real process, ingredient, or product.

Sustainable

We consider resource efficiency, responsible sourcing, local potential, and long-term environmental value throughout development.

Founder & CEO

Lebotanica was founded by Dr. Jamil Mourad, a Pharmacist-Biologist whose career has grown from laboratory science and research into a broader exploration of plants, agriculture, and natural innovation.

With a background in pharmacy and pharmaceutical chemistry, extensive experience in laboratory science and scientific research, and formal qualifications spanning permaculture design, organic cultivation, and natural formulation and cosmetic science, Dr. Mourad brings together disciplines that rarely sit within the same professional space.

Lebotanica is the result of that intersection: connecting the intelligence of regenerative agriculture with the science of botanical extraction, natural ingredients, and formulation to develop practical possibilities from plant to application.
